Riverhead Police report the arrest last night of a Level 3 Sex Offender for failure to register and verify as required by the State Sex Offender Registration Act.

Police charged Rahmel Walker, 31, whose address is listed in the State Sex Offender Registry as homeless in Riverhead, with a Class D felony for alleged violation of the registration act.

Walker was arrested last night at 8:29 p.m. by Riverhead Police detectives, processed at the Riverhead Police Department, and held for morning arraignment, according to a police press release. Police did not provide any additional information.

According to the State Sex Offender Registry, Walker was convicted in June 2011 of Attempted Criminal Sexual Act in the First Degree in connection with the rape of a 6-year-old boy in June 2010. He was sentenced to four years in prison.
